Larry,

I couldn't discern of which auction you're speaking.  However, '01A is a 
contraction of the entire designations used by a lot of different 
supplies for similar tubes:  Starting with the RCA UX-201A, and leading 
to 301A, 401A, etc.  The A designated the 5-volt 1/4-amp tubes, as 
opposed to the earlier '01's with 1-amp filaments.

There are a lot of these tubes in circulation.  Ten bucks is about the 
right price in a friendly antique-radio-club deal.  The early 
brass-based and tipped tubes command a premium
