[Boatanchors] RAL rebuild?

Ian,

I think that is very doable. The RAK and RAL are physically very robust and I think the mechanical design is clean so this surgery should not be too difficult. The RF section is the only complex part and it is so well designed that working on it isn't bad at all.

It is well worth some effort because I believe these are the best regenerative sets produced and the RAL is a great CW receiver (works fine on AM also but I love the sound of a good regen for CW). I just acquired a Technical Radio T-50-M CW transmitter from late WWII and it is going to be paired with my RAL-7 as soon as I go through it.

Do you have the matching power supply for the RAL? If so I would suggest removing the regulator tube since it isn't needed for stable AC circuits and it dumps a lot of heat into the power supply.
