Hi folks,
Many thanks for all the msgs & wellwishes, I'll try to answer all the
individual ones later. We are safe, no iinjuries. I'm taking a break after
lunch. Tnx Tom B for the synopsis of affairs, 2 minor editings - He made us
sound like a big property owner with our "lots". Abt 1-1/2 acre total,
house on one, "side yard" on other. And we're about 300 yds from the bank
of the Neuse River, The Trent joins it abt 7 mi. upstream at New Bern
proper. Pure salt water is abt 25 mi. away, the Neuse is partially salt
here, and 3 mi. wide. But a good note from Tom, I won't repeat, but a
little more addn maybe.
The tree came thru the roof abt 8PM Fri. nite. Our local ARES
coordinator was on the air from the County EOC, and I'd been ckg in on 2m.
Shelters had been opened. I told him what had happened & was immediatlely
told that they'd dispatch the Fire Dept. to get the roof covered. They did.
It's almost impossible to reach any contractor type svcs after 5PM,
particualrly on a wkend or this type of weather. A tree service owner did
answer the fone, and he came with 2 guys, they added to the coverings after
the FD left. They couldn't do any sawing at that time, the wind a rain
were pretty bad, so covering was spotty, water coming into the house thru
the roof.
Eye of the storm passed abt 25 mi. east at abt 9 AM Sat. I got up on
the roof shortly after that to secure tarps which had blown loose. Very
gusty & rainy, not any fun. Tree guys Sat. PM got the 8"dia. limb out of
the attic, and thru Sun. PM had most of the 14 trees cut up & hauled to the
road. This AM as Tom noted, the crane hauled the big one from the roof.
Contractor will cover up the hole shortly, to await the Ins. Adj. on Thurs.
Ins. Co. may not cover any more than the tree on the house, and house
damage.
My wife, Pat, bless her heart, said, a bit ago, that after the ins. adj.
shows on Thurs. there probably wouldn't be much to do until next week, so I
could still go to Shelby. I had motel res. for Thurs. & Fri. nite, and
space arrgd to tailgate. So maybe I'll make it. I'd been wkg on some stuff
to take, so maybe that'll help pay the big ins. co. deductible. Vy nice EAC
R-390A & refurbed SP-600 + my usual edebris. Will be at Nick's yellow
Boatanchor banner., abt where we were last yr.
Tnx, 73,
