This just in from Tom KE4RHH -
=============================================
Just got off the phone with Al, during which time a big crane was in
the process of removing a huge hickory tree that Irene caused to fall
smack dab on their home's roof. Unfortunately the tree crashed
through their roof, pierced the attic floor, and ripped all the way
into their living room. Fortunately, neither Al nor Pat were injured,
as they were in another room at the time all this happened. Since
then they've been hard at work bailing rain water -- trying to save
their hard wood floors -- and getting a company to put tarps over the
hole in their roof, which they were able to do.

Irene also knocked down 15 trees on their lots. But fortunately their
home is on a lot that is high enough that it did not get flooded by
the Trent River. As you may have seen on TV, that's in stark contrast
to a lot of other homes in New Bern, which were flooded big time. A
lot of water damage in New Bern for sure.

They've been without power for 48 hours, and just this morning found
the internet and cell phone service had been restored.

Al says he's hoping to get to the hamfest by Friday, so he'd like us
to hold on to his spaces. But at this point, he said, his first
priority is to get things ship shape at home.

Al said he'd fill us in when he gets a chance.

I know we all feel better knowing that Al and Pat are all okay.
Best,
-Tom
