Where are you pricing capacitors?

Mouser has the 150 volt one for well under $1.00 and the 450 volt one for not much more!

Now they are not in the old chassis mount cans. However, just cut the old one loose and leave it in place on top of the chassis and put the new one, which will be MUCH smaller, under the chassis. That way the "looks" will be the same.

Also, the newer capacitors are of better quality and much closer to the design value in tolerance than the original capacitors.

Can type capacitors are pretty much a special product these days which is why they cost so much.

Why are electrolytic capacitors so expensive?  Even the newer Aluminum are out of this world.  I am looking for a 20 @ 450V and a 50 and 150V.  One is $17 and the other is either $25 or $38 for single quantities.  Almost to expensive to fix and sending them in to Hayseed would run around $30 ea also.  This is for a real nice Gates Modulation Monitor with a pair of nice big meters on the front, one for reading transmitter on or off frequency values and the other is for modulation.

I have not determined that they existing caps are bad but as they are probably 40 plus years old, why not fix them now instead of having to pull the thing out of a rack to redo later.
