A place called Bretons Village has replacement luggage
handles. They have one with buckles on the ends which will
just about fit into the cleats on -hp- instruments using the
old type leather handles. Its not necessary to remove the
cleats. The handles are just slightly too long but if bent a
little will fit and look good. They are very rugged and not
too expensive.

The handles are shown at:
http://www.brettunsvillage.com/trunks/howto/parts/schandles.htm

The ones I got do not seem to be there now but the tan
handles second down from the top are very similar and should
work. The steel reinforced ones shown further on are
probably too large.
