[Boatanchors] Heathkit Apache power cord

What do you guys do for a fuse and power cord on the apache?

I was thinking of taking that killer half box off the back where the power
cord connects to the feed thru caps. 
What about just doing away with the feed thru caps, running the new power
cord thru one of the holes and mount a fuse holder in the other hole.

Of course a 3 wire power cord.

Any other suggestions?
