Well here on Long Island (sandy/mud bottoms)
Size, weight and length of rode are set by the various towns.
This is a good thing, because I don't want a boat breaking loose and causing
havoc.......
but if "rock" is the preferred mooring, then go with it......
For a "lunch hook" the standard Danforth is used.....

I have and, as noted elsewhere, a goodly number use a large rock. While
this isn't really an approved anchor, it is kind of traditional here in a
state which still has a law on the books that says every able bodied male
shall have a boat - a carry over from the Kingdom of Hawaii.
After that, there was a variety of answers including "Anchor?".
This truly is a fun state to live in. What one considers the norm on the
mainland isn't necessarily normal here. It's basically living in another
country (which it is for DX purposes) that is also a state (which it also is
for WAS & WAC.)
