There was at least one Valiant there, Herman, It was down by the
tennis courts in that open trailer with the load of receivers. The
fellow had a decent NC-300 w/matching speaker in the same trailer for
$175. Recognized two 75A-1s, one with cabinet ($300) and one
without(no price), and a somewhat scruffyT-368 PTO/exciter for $300!
Saw two ART-13s, one of which I pointed out to a fellow AMer who
promptly bought it and the BC-342 sitting next to it on the table.
Another list member (Greg, WA7LYO) who was sharing a space with the
new owner ended up with a very nice and fairly complete GRC 9 set up
in nice shape too. Only saw 3 hacked Command receivers, none of the
ARC-5 versions. One fellow had a very clean RAL-7 with 2 supplies for
either $200 or $300, can't remember which.
One of the more interesting pieces I was tempted to buy was a National
NC-101X with the green tuning eye and a custom panel from the factory
made for United Airlines. All stock, reasonably good shape, for a mere
$70. Was a great deal and I had to reach down deep to keep from
grabbing it. All I brought back (other than the clean TX-1 nobody
bought) was a de-soldering pump ($5), two rolls of wide coax seal
($1.50 ea) and a roll of electrical tape ($2).
John 'AWM was one of the first people I saw there on Thursday
afternoon, got a short video of him talking with Steve, WB3HUZ. Was
good seeing you again too, Herman. Your car looked pretty full when
you headed out!
All in all a good 'fest, though the excessive use of golf carts was a
common complaint I heard from many. Apparently the club who runs the
fest must get a cut of the rentals, but they'd be doing a lot of those
folks a favor if they made them walk from what I could see. Over and
over again we came across carts parked in front of tables blocking
access while the occupant(s) were over yapping with someone 20 feet
away. That and constantly having to dodge them as they wove around the
grounds made it annoying at times. They'd do well to limit the use of
any types of vehicles to the handicapped or elderly, and the club
courtesy carts. I saw no one from the boatanchor or AM crowd in a
cart, perhaps because they move so slowly?
