Hello All.....
Shelby was a good one; it always is. Was VERY hot on Thursday (and
hotter yet on Friday), but Saturday was a nice day. Think it was probably
around 80 degrees when I had to leave around 11 AM. Lots of boatanchors
there. Within minutes after my arrival early Thursday, I saw no less than FOUR
Heathkit Marauders. Lots of other Heathkit gear, plus lots of Swan,
Hammarlund, Collins, National, Hallicrafters, etc. One guy had a nice 75A-4
with all 3 filters and the 4:1 VFO knob........was asking $895, I think.
EF Johnson was especially well represented by Friday PM.........saw THREE
Ranger IIs, and a lot of other stuff, like Adventurers, Challengers, 6N2s,
earlier Rangers, plus a pretty well-worn Invader 200. There was a really
nice Five Hundred there, too........but never saw a Thunderbolt, either HF or
6N2, and didn't ever see a Valiant. Someone I know had a desk KW he'd
picked up on the way down, but I don't think it was put out for sale. I saw
a couple of nice Hammarlund HC-10s.........one went for $60, and the other
one was bought for only $20 (!). Saw some SBE stuff, like the SB-34 and
its matching SB2LA amp. Very little Gonset stuff was there, though.
Several nice Lafayette items and a few Knight-Kits were available. Lots of
nice Central Electronis gear was for sale, including the early 10B and/or
20A exciters, the matching VFO (made from the ARC-5 gear), and THREE 200Vs
(two of them were being sold by one seller). Saw a couple Sideband
Slicers. I picked up a nice Hammarlund HQ-120X, a pretty rare Matric Model 50
three band QRP rig, and a couple keys. Hopefully I saw most of what was
there; wish I could have been there past late morning on Saturday, but had to
be on the road about then.
73, Herman, N4CH.
