[Boatanchors] Transmitter Chirp Question

The filter caps on this rig are new, they were changed before power from variac was applied.  I swapped the 6CL6 with another I had.  Both tested good with a simple eico 625 tester, swapping made no difference.  I suppose both of them could be bad,  neither were "NOS".  

This is going to sound really strange, when I turned the crystal over ( swapped the grounded end ), the chirp went away!   These crystals are HC49 in an FT243 holder, maybe it's just a dream but I seem to recall having similar experiences as a kid with some crystals.

Anyway, just received a reground real FT243 for 3546, will be interested in how it behaves ( or misbehaves ).
