[Boatanchors] Transmitter Chirp Question

Hello Curt,

Yep, the Eico 720 and 723 were two good rigs that didn't have too many tendencies towards chirp. Had a good friend when I was in High School who ran one for years and worked DXCC, WAS, WAC with it in short order.
Most rigs of that era could be made to chirp IF you drove the crystal too hard, the power supply had the caps going south or too over coupled between stages. It's usually the load change on the oscillator that makes the chirp. Sometimes a soft oscillator tube will chirp as well.
My old WRL Scout 680A would chirp and sound raspy if the driver peaking cap was tweaked the wrong way. Sounded like a Canary with the hiccups! Old (1969) Notable Chirp masters: CO2BB on 40. Mixed with a bit of banana boat swing it was fun to listen too. ;>)

Subject: [Boatanchors] Transmitter Chirp Question

My Eico 723 chirps. Besides the crystal, the screen bypass capacitor and feedback capacitors, are there any other typical causes for this. I owne d one of these as a kid and chirp was never an issue. In fa ct, I've never owned ANY rig with this problem. Anyone who experienced this problem with an Eico 723, Heathkit DX-20, or similar simple transmitters manage to determine the problem and solve it?
