[Boatanchors] RME-69 'lytic replacement

Thanks Tom for describing the situation better than I did. I guess the boys at RME didn't expect the radios to outlast some of the parts. My orig. thinking was that this large, tall and square can would be an easy re-stuff project. However, after more consideration it's really not worth the trouble. I'm not a purist so hanging the separate 'lytics under the chassis is no problem for me. I have the 'lytics in stock, so its just a matter of tracing down the wiring thru the harnesses...which is still a bit of a pain. Most of the harnesses are hidden under the bandswitch assembly.

I had already changed the 20uf when I did the previous recapping job...just didn't do the big 'lytic.

Thanks for the great advice.

Hiya, Bill. I'm not sure some of the folks that have replied to you
realize what your up against with that RME-69, i.e. that it's got a
potted square can that is a real mother-bear to get out. The
installation of that dude must have been one of the very first steps on
the assembly line, and what came later made the mounting nuts completely
inaccessible, without taking half the radio apart, IIRC.

I vote with the fellows that suggest installing some "discreet
discretes" under the chassis, unless you just relish the challenge. A
couple of 10 uF @ 450V's, and whatever you can come up with that's close
to a 12 uF @ 450V (probably another 10 uF will be well within the old
tolerance).

While your at it, there's probably a low voltage electrolytic (around 10
or 20 uF @ 25 to 50 volts) around the output amp somewhere for the
cathode bias. An old guy like that probably needs replaced, too.

Good luck with that rig. The RME that doesn't look like an RME, hi HI!

73,
Tom
