The electrolytic capacitors in the "goode olde dayes" often were -50% / +80% in tolerance.  It has been only in the past very few decades that tolerances of +/- 20% or even +/- 10% have become pretty common.  Most electrolytic capacitors these days are at least as good as +/- 20% with +/- 10% being found in more and more items.
