[Boatanchors] In need of a Heathkit choke...

I agree that shipping an Apache or similar size is difficult and expensive, not to mention the great potential of damage.  Someone mentioned hamfests and Dayton, but there is another alternative.  I see by QRZ that the seller is in Salt Lake, which is a good size city.  Good chance of a local, or someone within 100 miles being interested.  Also, SLC is on Rt 15 that goes through Southern California.  There are people making that trip all the time, not necessarily hams.  I have had good luck "asking around" to friends, and have gotten rides for radios coming or going.

To illustrate, a friend and I had the good fortune of buying a collection of 26 vintage receivers last summer.  We ended up selling all but 3 or 4 of them (I couldn't part with the HQ120x or SX100).  To my recollection, only about 2 of them required shipping, one of them a light and easy to ship S38.  The rest were sold locally or got "rides" to their destinations.  True, we're in heavily populated Southern California, but most were snapped up by collectors within a few weeks.  The substantial savings in shipping and ability to see and operate the equipment contributed to the quick sales.

So, I'd suggest that the Apache owner advertise in the local club newsletters and swap nets, and maybe even on Craig's List, and I'd guess he'll find a home for it sooner than he thinks!

My 2 cents worth!

I agree.  Parting out the SB 220 was insane and obscene.  I begged the guy to sell me the whole thing, but he was adamant.  Oh well ... what can you do?
