I think it really amounts to what your time is worth.

Do yo really want to spend several hours packing something like a DX-100 
for $100 plus shipping? And it will take a few hours to do it right.

Most will not and if nobody wants it locally, than parting it out is a 
good alternative.

You are also helping with the restoration of a bunch of transmitters/ 
receivers missing parts and making a bunch of people happy because they 
were able to get the missing parts to complete their restoration.

As for parting out a working SB-220, that is insane. It's not that big 
of an amp and it's much lighter/smaller than a DX-100. I shipped one to 
Spain last year and it was not a big deal to pack although I did remove 
the tubes and send them separately.
