[Boatanchors] Cost of radio

Glenn,
I think that $75 is the very high end for one in very nice cosmetic condition-I wouldn't pay more than $50 for one in average condition(trim present, paint OK, all knobs present and correct).
The S-20R is from the lower end of the Halli line and selectivity, stability, and image rejection (20 meters and up) will be problematic. I have several Halli's from that era (S-19, S-19R, S-20, S-20R, and S-22R) and they are good examples of basic radios from that era but you wouldn't want to use them as your main or everyday receiver. I guess they are historically interesting because the S-20 basic circuit layout survived through the S-40 and later S-85 and SX-99 models.
So if you want a basic receiver for when conditions are good or a receiver that does a decent job with AM broadcast and what is left of SW broadcast it is an OK receiver. Otherwise, one of the Super Skyriders (or even a Defiant or Super Defiant) from that era will be a much better choice. My slightly older SX-9 and SX-11 are much better performers.

I have been offered a S-20R Sky Champion from an estate.
I think the asking price is high.
What is a reasonable price to pay for a Hallicrafters S-20R that is
functional but not restored?
Thanks
