Barry,

Glad you found my explanation useful.  With a 1500 volt power supply  
you would be right at the edge of the voltage rating of your variable  
cap with the grounded rotor option,
i.e., 4 X1500 = 6000 volts.  Might work OK, though, if you don't hit  
the audio too hard.
