Actually, I agree with much of what people have said here - if the
pressure relief is bulging I don't bother trying. I only bother with
electrolytic cans - to me small tubulars used in bias supplies and for
cathode bypassing aren't worth the trouble. And I don't trust Black
Beauties, etc..
I don't just do the slow variac "reforming" thing - I isolate and
reform each section of the can and I measure the capacitance and
monitor leakage current constantly during reforming. If the cap heats
up or the leakage current doesn't drop like it should, I toss it. I am
perfectly content using properly reformed and *tested* electrolytics
in my gear. So I'm definitely serious about wanting your octal plug-in
military caps.
