[Boatanchors] Reforming Caps?

Hi Nick.....
We agree on the consensus for sure...after all, everyone could be
wong....HEH
I'm not a reformer.....
Any 'lytic with a blown pop top pressure relief needs to be replaced.
If it is 10 years old or more...I change them regardless.

Curt...I might be preaching to the choir here but....
When the electrolyte dries up, the internal pressures become high enough to
blow the pressure relief to avoid exploding the cap. Plus, much of the
capacitive properties are lost and the thing turns into a resistor
which...as someone said....can/will damage the transformer/rectifier(s).
It just isn't worth it.

If the cap is a paper cap...the usual plastic encased type, pink, blue,
black, yellow, brown...bla....
Or postage stamp WWll mica.....
Don't try to troubleshoot the radio....chop them outta there.....
Buy new caps and put em' in there!

I've got a big bag full of them that the phools will buy and make me
rich....
Might be able to buy a burger with the money...

No consensus at all, just an eternally debated topic in boatanchordom!
I'm a reformer, and am always happy to receive old octal plug-in
military electrolytics from non-reformers. Send me your tired your
poor, your electrolytics yearning to be reformed.... I'll even send a
box with pre-paid postage and a few bucks for your trouble.
cheers,
Nick K4NYW
