Welcome to the list, Curt.
Well, you just might be starting on an incredible journey. About 10-12 yrs ago, I too, just wanted to replicate my 1959 Novice station...a DX-40 & HQ-100. I did, but my interest in boatanchors just started with that station. Now, well, lets just say, my cup runneth over. I am having a blast. Now, I run only vintage and homebrew tube gear ranging from 1929 into the 1960s. So be careful, you may become a boatanchor fanatic....and there sure ain't nothing wrong with that.
Some folks fuss some when eBay is mentioned, but I wouldn't have been able to pick up some of the gear I have now if not for the auction site. I just can't get to all the hamfests around the country so eBay is a 24/7 fest. If you do use that method just be aware of who you deal with and ask questions as needed.
I got my 723 via eBay and it works quite nicely. Also, try to go to as many hamfest as you can...there are still some good buys available..at least in my area (east of Raleigh NC)
Good luck and hope you have as much fun as I'm having. Whatever you get, please use it and lets hear you on the air.

I'm new to this list, so please excuse if this post isn't appropriate.
As a new novice in 1960, my first transmitter was an Eico 723. Being recently bitten by the nostalgia bug, I'm hoping to own one again. Looking for one in good cosmetic and operational condition, but am willing to troubleshoot and repair one if that is necessary.urt KB5JO
