I usually dont recommend DeOxit for much of anything but in this case it can
be usefull as long as the socket is not phenolic. Use just a drop on the
end of a toothpick into each pin hole and then reinsert the tube maybe 6
times. Wash away the DeOxit with CRC or other non residue and non conductive
solvent. I also use a hand held wire brush (toothbrush size) on the tube
pins as the first step which clears up most intermittents.
Some radios with riveted sockets that are also used for ground connections
become corroded and intermittent. Either solder the socket flange to the
chassis or drill out the rivets and use stainless hardware and tooth
washers.

Subject: [Boatanchors] Tube socket problems
I frequently run into this problem and wonder if any one has come up with a
easy, simple solution:
How do you clean the tube socket connections?
This is a big problem on a rig that has been sitting for a long time and has
been stored in less than ideal conditions.
The tubes check ok but when I wiggle the tube there is either a lot of noise
in the receiver or the filament goes out.
The solder connections on the socket are ok.
I have tried squeezing the contacts together with a small pick and used
contact cleaner and it helps somewhat, but the above problem still persists.
. . .
Any ideas????
