[Boatanchors] Removing switch with knurled nut

I need to replace three of the switches on the front panel of a RAL.
These are the
SPST and DPDT toggle switches in the audio filter chain.

These switches have a round, knurled, nut on the outside of the panel.
Attempts to
remove the switches by gripping the knurled nut have not worked very
well so far.

Is there a good way to do this, using non-specialist tools? I don't
mind destroying
the nut, but I don't want to damage the panel.
