No 'trickery' Rob? You've just described sniping to a tee, and just
placed a bid shortly before the close of the auction in hopes of
winning the item by beating out others who've bid earlier. Somehow the
'few seconds' you describe makes this fair and square compared to....?
The only people you're leaving those few seconds for are those who
bid closer to the end of the auction. You've already (hopefully)
outbid those folks who placed their bids days earlier. Nothing
unethical about any of it.
It's a good discussion about a newer tool used in our hobby.
Considering all the changes ebay has made to hide bidders identities
and control payment, shipping, etc, it's interesting to hear how
others perceive the process.
Embrace your inner sniper, Rob. It really will keep you from bidding
ridiculously high amounts that you could regret later. (o:
