Bob,
I agree on the CFL's and other fluorescent lamps. My business has 48 8ft
lamps on 10hrs a day, and 6-10 CFL lamps in shop on the same period. We
have an outside night light, in Kansas heat and very cold with a CFL, it has
been there 3 years now. No interference. Life on CFL, I can't complain.
Haven't had to change one yet, been over 3 years now.
Getting 'good' cfls is key, and color temperature is important. I use the
'bright white' spectrum units.

I volunteer at a national park. One of my jobs, when I'm not doing
computer network installation, is changing light bulbs. The park went
over to CFLs over 10 years ago. They run 10 hours/day, 365 days a
year. Average life under these conditions is about 5 years. We were
lucky to get 6 months out of incandescents.
