Which gets to the actual issue at hand in the fear of mercury: it
shouldn't be ingested, or absorbed through an open wound, etc. It
could easily be said that many materials and compounds considered safe
and not on any regulatory or ban list are just as dangerous is
ingested or otherwise handled incorrectly. Instead it's easier to
point at one item and scream, the general public understands this
easier.

No doubt these things need to be handled and disposed of properly. But
as Robert mentioned, the same is true here: absolutely *no* recycling
program for CFL or even old fluorescent bulbs. In fact, I've never
seen such a program anywhere I've been. But when you're pushing an
agenda where much of the CFL nonsense is based, amazingly the rules
seem to change. They work fine, but carry their own issues which need
to be addressed and owned up to.

I've used fluorescent bulbs for years in some applications where
standard incandescent bulbs just don't cut it. But I've never had the
issues of frequent bulb replacement issues mentioned here for
incandescents either. I'll continue to use both where applicable and
ignore the nitwits who insist the sky is falling because I'm using an
"old fashioned" light bulb.
