[Boatanchors] PACE MAKER QUESTION

Al provided the best guidance here.

Having said that, the only warnings I received
on my pacemaker were to avoid strong MAGNETIC
fields. That included leaning over a fender
to work on an engine with it running because
of a strong field around the alternator.

Additionally, I worked for five years after the
implantation in an FAA radio shop just next to
the radar overhaul shop. I even went into that
shop on occasion without any noticeable problem.

My pacemaker is checked for operation every two
months via a telephone audio data device that
sends "clicks" to the remote lab that does the
readouts. One step in that process involves
placing a pretty strong magnet over the pacemaker
for about 30 seconds. This apparently boosts
my pulse rate by 20% or more and I can definitely
tell you THAT it is QUITE uncomfortable.

I was told that the old warnings about going where
microwave ovens were operating was a thing of the
past. Manufacturers have learned a lot in the
past 20 or so years.

NO MEDICAL ADVICE CONTAINED HERE!

Simply my experience.
