[Boatanchors] Insulated shafting

I'm in need of some non-conductive 1/4" shafting that is stiff and not springy.

Right now I'm using Delrin for the shaft on the tank cap on a transmitter I just built. The problem with it is that when I turn the knob it winds up and then jumps further than I want to go.

I've Googled for non-conductive shafting and searched all the popular suppliers with no luck.

I have some non-conductive shafting here that is a medium brown in color. It's looks like some sort of composition material and is very stiff. Trouble is, I don't have a piece long enough. I need about nine inches.

Anyone know where I can find something that will work?
