Which wasn't at all what I said:

It seems that some units did indeed use the KWM-1 at least initially,
and others did not.

Nothing makes it more interesting IMO than hearing from those who were
actually there or took part somehow in the engineering/ of such
systems. Something that makes no sense to us now might've made perfect
sense at the time and vice versa. The actual historical accounts are
what will weed out the 'fantasy' from reality going forward.
