The info from Alex's friend doesn't mean KWM-1s "weren't" used.

It simply furthers the simple factual view that the pilot could not have
been able to see it or fiddle with it.

Those flight profiles were NO fun. They had specific flight paths and
time to perform certain functions dependent on what was configured in
the Q-Bay and the other bay.

The KWM-1s would have had to be mounted down in that region.

Eventually, they incorporated a specific type of HF radio built-in with
a control head that WAS able to be used.

Today's version of the U-2 is the TR-1. It has two MONSTER pods under
the wing, one on each side.

It is like trying to find specifics on the SR-71. Hell, even the name
ID of a component installed in a bay is/was classified.
