Hello All,
A photo of of the Scott Special can be found on page 131 of "Communications
Receivers: The Vacuum Tube Era - 4th Edition" by Raymond S. Moore.
From: "On the Shortwaves, 1923-1945: Broadcast Listening in the Pioneer
Days of Radio" by Jerome S. Berg, page 126:
"In 1939 E. H. Scott, who was also interested mainly in hi-fi shortwave
receivers, produced a 26 tube communications receiver, the Scott Special,
which contained many of the features of the Scott hi-fi sets. It boasted
two completely separate front ends, one for the broadcast band and long
wave, the other for shortwave up to 64 mc. The set had 22 controls...
The Scott Special had a very low production run, owing mainly to its price:
$650." (Which was more than the U.S. annual per capita income at the time).
The Scott WWII military receivers, and post-war receivers like the 820,
were entirely different models, not the Scott Special.
