Harold,
I own both and the R-390A is in a different class. The GPR-90 has better tuning feel and much better stock audio, it is also a very attractive looking radio. It does a fine job on AM but is pretty lousy on CW and SSB. My GPR-90 has a Hammarlund HC-10 coupled to it which turns it into a pretty good SSB/CW receiver but it still is a bit drifty on SSB. The R-390A has an Eldico sideband adapter attached to it and it does a great job on all modes.
So, in my opinion, the GPR-90 is a better receiver than many of the competing general coverage receivers but it isn't in the R-390A performance class. It really needs its GSB-1 or another sideband/CW adapter for good performance on those modes.

There were many Boat Anchors at the Shelby/Dallas, N.C. Hamfest this past weeknd. I saw a very nice GPR-90, first one in many years. Just wondered, from those who know, how do these two receivers compare?
Harold
