You can use a PA system speaker matching transformer to solve this
problem. Transformers are available for so called "70 volt" and "25
volt" PA systems that have several taps designed to match "watts". What
these really are is multi-tapped transformers that rely on a certain
amount of mismatch to determine how loud a particular room speaker is
when connected to the system. The impedance range of these transformers
typically runs from about 500 to more than 16,000 ohms (primary) to a
8-ohm secondary. These transformers are very cheap when new, and can
often be obtained for free from speakers in a building being torn down.
These transformers make excellent matching transformers for all sorts of
boatanchor and glow-bug projects. Try to find a unit that has all its
leads intact, and not clipped as is often the case. Get a unit rated
at 4 to 16 watts, it will be exactly what you are looking for.
Remember, a rose by any other name .........

If I recall correctly, the speaker output is 4KOhm and was wondering if any one had a transformer hanging around so I could use 4-8 ohm speakers with it. I could offer cash or even better, tested vacuum tubes in exchange. Would be willing to offer 2-3 times worth of tubes in exchange but cash OK as well. Also, if I am wrong with the output impeadance please let me know.

Looks like there is hope for #2 son and radio! He was so excited It prevented me from harm by the wife for leaving it on the kitchen table the night(well morning) before when I crawled up to bed.
