If looking at the BOTTOM of the transistor.....
... it will be emitter, base  and then collector.... clockwise
or 9am is the emitter, noon is the base and 3pm is the collector...

using a VOM with diode tester:
the 2n224 is a PNP,
put the negative lead on the noon lead
then the red on the 9am lead... if good and we are right on the layout 
of the leads, then it should read around 200 or 300 ohms. 

AND then move the red lead to the 3pm position keeping the black on the 
noon lead ... it should read 200 or 300 ohms, not exactly the same as 
the other measured, but kinda close... like it could be as much as 30 or 
40 ohms difference...

Again, this is IF the transistor is working... 

There should be NO conductance or measurement reversing the leads...
also no measurement between the 9am and 3pm leads, with leads either 
way, red on 9am and black on 3pm and visa versa.
