Thanks for all the replies. The consensus is to use it.
Now if I still had the GPR-90 or SP-600 I had back East,
there would be no question. But they found new homes before
I retired to Arizona.
Thanks again,

>To clear up some misconceptions about the Hallicrafters SX-96/100/101 family of receivers they are designed to provide selectable sideband reception of AM signals so when properly tuned the carrier is placed at one edge of the passband and in the 5 Khz. selectivity position they provide the equivalent of a 10 Khz. bandwidth in a conventional receiver. If NOT properly tuned and the carrier is placed in the center of the passband then they do only have audio response out to around 2.5 Khz. at the 6 db down point in the 5 Khz. position.

>All of this is covered in the manual and the suggested method is to tune the receiver for zero beat with the BFO on and pitch set to zero. Then turn the BFO off and select either sideband and in the 5 Khz. position the nominal bandwidth is out to 5 Khz. above or below the carrier at the 6 db down point (depending upon sideband selected). Of course under tough conditions you can reduce the bandwidth. This tuning process and result is also true for the Heathkit RX-1 and Hammarlund HQ170/180 receivers (and the related HC-10 sideband adapter).
