Dick,
The SX-111 works quite well on AM. It is basically a cost reduced version of the SX-101. The selectable sideband feature is very useful for combating interference and when conditions are right the audio is pretty wide in the wide bandwidth position. Best way to tune on AM is to set the pitch control to zero and zero beat the carrier in SSB mode. At zero beat, the receiver is now properly tuned and you can switch sidebands at will to avoid interference (assuming the AM station transmitting is not using one of the later all mode transceivers that only transmits one sideband on AM).

I have an SX-111 and wonder what folks thought about using it
for 80 Meter AM work. I know I could get a better receiver,
but this one's sitting on the shelf.
Thanks for your input,
