Hello Rod - Motorola Semiconductor became two semiconductor companies.
In 1999 they combined Discretes, Logic and most of Analog and it became
ON Semiconductor. I was part of ON for two years and than like
everywhere else they laid off most of the Motorola employees. The rest
of Semiconductor's became Freescale about 4 years later. That included
everything from Austin, TX (Microprocessors, memory, etc) and the
remaining analog stuff here in Phoenix.

Motorola was the largest employer in the state of Arizona with over
30,000 employees at one time. I believe that their might be a few
hundred Motorola employees left here now 10 years later.

Forgot to mention that they also sold off the Motorola Government
Electronics Division in around 1999 which was here in Scottsdale. That
was sold to General Dynamics and those former Motorola employees have
done very well. Can't say the same for the people who worked in
Semiconductors.

This all began when Junior took over in 1997 and decided he did not want
Moto in the semi or government electronics business and he apparently
did not like Arizona either.

After 10 years, Motorola is now a distant memory. I worked for them for
27 years.

73,
