Hello all -
My Kenwood T-599D / R-599D "twins" transmits just fine on SSB when the SEP - XCVR switch on the back of the T-599D is in the SEP position. When it is in the XCVR position with MIC gain 3/4 clockwise as before, I have no ALC indicating on the panel meter, no modulation and no perceptable RF power out .
Also... when the SEP - XCVR switch is in the XCVR position, I have idle current (60 ma) but cannot tune-up the rig in the TUNE position as there is no ALC reading to set the DRIVE control and in the CW position there is no PLATE current reading with the meter set to Ip position.
The remote cable connecting the two units is wired and installed correctly. It makes no difference what position the VFO selector is in. I have a service manual and schematic for reference. I'm hoping someone experienced with these "twins" can point me in the right direction to resolve these issues.
Just to summarize, with the T-599D SEP - XCVR in the SEP position, the twins function perfectly on all bands and all modes. In the XCVR position the T-599D will not transmit. Thanks & 73, Bill, w0ng
