Speaking of keeping the old girls squeaky clean.  I buy nail polish remove 
with acetone in it.
Costs $1 at the dollar store and is very effective in removing crud, flux 
and oxide.  It is also very effective at removing paint and decals so be 
darn careful if you want to try it.  Q tips and old toothbrushes work too.
I have no idea how many rigs I have fixed with this stuff but it's an 
effective but slightly dangerous method used here.
