Lee -
Start by unplugging and replugging the crystal in the 40M slot. If
still no Preselector peak, try substituting a 6EA8 for the 6U8. This
will often "fix" a bad crystal.
Keep in mind that the 2-B is essentially an 80M receiver with crystal
controlled converters in front of it. You can check with a Hi-Z meter
on the test point near V2. Note the reading with the Bandswitch on 80M,
and then switch to 40. The voltage should go negative a volt or two if
the oscillator is running.
