[Boatanchors] Meissner Signal Shifter

Good afternoon:

I recently aquired two MSS in reasonably good condition. One is the older style, with plug-in coils (got all the ham-band coils, including 160M!).

The older one seems to work quite well, and doesn't appear to drift very much at all.

The newer version, the "EX", with the coil turret, has low output on 160M, lower output on 80 and 40M, and no output on 10M.

I've tested and replaced all tubes, to no avail. I cleaned the contacts on the turret, which may have helped a bit, but I still have low-output.

The older untit will light a 25 watt light bulb (I know, the lightbulb thing again. However, I don't know how else to measure the output. And, I think the lightbulb is a good relative output device) a quite bright white.

The newer unit will light the same bulb to a fairly bright red on 160M, with progressively less output as the frequency goes up.

Are there any known issues with these devices? Any place to look first?

Any help appreciated!
