I guess a Seeburg Q160 from 1962 qualifies as a boatanchor. This
belongs to my brother in Ohio and I am trying to get it updated for
him. I have all the tubes needed for a complete replacement so we are
ready if one fails.
I already built him a bucking transformer/over-voltage protector to
set the AC input to 115vac. I am going to add an inrush current
limiter (ICL) and have added surge protection.
He did some inquiries on various rebuilds and protection, and a
gentleman offered to upgrade it for him with transformer protection
from shorts in the control center for all transformers and the same
for the solenoids to prevent overheating but the guy wants $350 ! I
told him to hold off while I do some research.
I have used crowbar circuits to protect the equipment from overvoltage
in the power supply but that may damage the transformer if the line
fuse doesn't blow quick enough. This unit has several power supply
transformers for various sections of the unit so each should be
protected.
As far as the solenoids go, I have no clue how to protect them. The
transformer protection, I guess, could be handled by the new resetable
fuses in the secondary but I am sure you all can provide other
suppositions.
