[Boatanchors] RANGER LOW VOLTAGE CHOKE

Bill,

I had to replace mine in my Ranger 1 and my replacement came from a
Viking 1 or 2 parts unit; it is the same choke (15 henry , 280 ohm DC
resistance).

I measured my current draw at 85 mils in phone and for curiosity I
measured the current draw of my Ranger 2 at 88 mils, also on phone-sorry
but I never made a CW measurement. When I got my Ranger 1 (I use it to
drive the Desk KW) it had a hum problem which I finally traced to
someone installing a properly sized 5 H choke in place of one of the
proper value. I think my Ranger 1 has had every possible cause of hum
one could have in a Ranger.

If you believe Johnson's numbers, the current draw should only be around
70 mils (20 volts drop across a 280 ohm resistance). In any case, a 100
mil rated replacement should be fine as should any low voltage choke
from a Ranger 1 or 2 or a Viking 1 or 2. I imagine the corresponding
Valiant part is physically larger and would not fit.
