I had a new HQ-110A in the 60's, as a new Tech it was the "worlds best" 6M receiver.
Several friends recommended a pre-amp, because it will make the S-meter go even higher....
 
There was a 2M scale but no 2M receive without a converter.  
After I got my general it was put to good use on the low bands.
I traded it for a 75A3 and never looked back
