Hi Mike --

I just finished the complete recapping of my 101A, and I've owned it
since 1999. It's been in regular use on AM and CW.

It was my daily (Weekend) 10M AM driver when we had those things
called sunspots around, and it's a super receiver on 10M. That was
with all the original black beauty caps in in.

Last year I replaced all the black beauty caps and out of tolerance
resistors etc on the main chassis (except those on the Selectivity
switch). Wow!! What an improvement!! I of course replaced the
can capacitor (it's still on the chassis, but new parts are
underneath). The hard wired fuse for the Oscillator is replaced with
an in-line fuse holder.

This Christmas, I removed the 2nd Converter Subchassis and checked the
resistors, and replaced all the black beauty caps and out of tolerance
resistors on the Selectivity switch. Noticeable improvement between
selectivity settings.

The 101A has a product detector which makes it nice to use on sideband.

Ditto what Al said about the 12BY7A and the band switch.

I used to run an HT-32 MK 1 with my 101A, but that developed some
issue a while back and haven't gotten around to looking at it. I
recently picked up an HT-32B and I'm looking forward to getting that
and the 101A on line.
