John,
No personal experience. Helped a couple buddies build them and put them up.
Not a real popular antenna in the
windy, and sometimes icy, plains of Kansas. If I remember right, they do
not have as much "ground effect" de-
tuning as a yagi when testing.
Quad was developed by W9LZX for the high powered station, Voice of the
Andes, HCJB. Closed radiator did not
corona with high power at the high elevation.
Wikipedia has data on it and Orr's radio handbooks of past had a lot of
data. There used to be a company that made
the "spreaders" out of aluminum you could put bamboo poles on.
Local area ham used to say the quad was not big enough if it didn't fall
down in Kansas wind!
