Worse comes to worse you can build a chassis using aluminum angle and sheet aluminum.  That would be stronger than most bought ones.

I am in need of a 17 x 13 x 3" aluminum chassis for a homebrew  project. This is a typical size for amplifiers and rack mounted gear.
  
I know that they are available through Mouser, etc., but they also tend to be very pricey.  Does anyone know of a more reasonably priced source,  either mail order or in Southern Cal?
