[Boatanchors] vairac help

In industrial control parlance, H1 & H2 would be the line side and X1, X2,
& X3 would be the load side. This is pretty conventional.

As to isolation, I've not seen isolating Variacs, but they could almost
certainly be made. Try an Ohms check. H1 & H2 should show essentially
infinite resistance to X1, X2, & X3.

I can only guess as to which of the X terminals is the wiper, but X3 seems
likely.

Check the isolation and then apply power and measure the output.
