Roger,

If you have a scope you could use it to see whether you are getting 
output from the jack; another alternative is to loosely couple the 
output jack to a receiver which tunes to 455 Khz and use that to check 
your output.

The HC-10 is a nice converter (basically equivalent to the final 
IF/detector/AF stages of an HQ-170/180 receiver).  I am using one with 
my TMC GPR-90 receiver and it greatly improves the receiver on CW also.
