I started to go after my license about '61 - '62. Age 11 to 12.
Parental differences crept in.
Removed that mess in '68 and voluntarily put on a uniform. Pulled a
relay or two out of my hat with a PRC-25 on my back with my second
overseas tour in the DMZ of Korea, (First tour was Viet Nam), It was an
outfit under fire in 'Nam requesting MediVac. Got permission to try.
It worked!
That really hooked me! It took until 1980 to be able to FINALLY get
licensed. Something about getting married, a couple of youngsters.....
So I started with an SB-102, SP-600,, and an HP-23A.
Second rig, (station), within 6 months was an HT-37 and an SX-101 that I
bid on that belonged to the club. They wanted to replace it with a
TS-520. All the "new" folks even THEN could NOT sync the separate
radios with the spot function.
Yep! I took the 130 mile trip to the FCC office, filled out my
paperwork, took the code test,, then the written, and walked out a
General Class.
Don't know if dumping CW is/was good or bad. I know it cuts through
when NOTHING else does.
Sorry if packet, PSK31, and the rest of the junk doesn't turn me on. I
just LOVE the glow out of my SP-600, R-390A, and my BC-610s!
